The Utomo Obong is an annual parade and ceremony in honor of the Obong of CALABAR.
Carnival is only an English term for the parade which was transported by slave descendant to Brazil ,Cuba,Trinidad and Barbados .
The parade was later modified with elements of modernity and flamboyancy.
Sadly many Nigerians and Africans do not appreciate their own and even see carnival as imported from Brazil when in fact carnival is actually African culture adapted by slave descendants to keep to celebrate their African roots.
The carnival is not just any African culture but precisely Efik Calabar culture . Calabar was one of the major West African slave ports.
